Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Mark Smith and I'm a software developer from the North East of England. I primarily develop web applications using ASP.NET, HTML and CSS but I also have experience with ASP and PHP. I have good database knowledge of SQL Server and Oracle and also do quite a bit of windows programming (using VB.NET/C# and in the past, VB6). I've developed this site so it can be used both as a resource for web programmers/developers and as somewhere to showcase how powerful ASP.NET can be. It has been written using version 2.0 of the .NET framework and I've tried to incorporate as many of the key features of this technology as I could. You can read some of the articles I've written to see how some of these features can be implemented, but just to give you a general idea here are some of those that I have used:
I am an active member of at the Less Than Dot ASP.NET forum and you can find me under the handle "ca8msm". The handle comes from a login that I was given at university and follows a standard based on your degree, the year you joined and your name. In my case, it meant Computing Alpha (an incrementing character if the handle would be duplicated) 1998 Mark Smith.
